It was very exciting for the community of Macquarie Dragons FC to see the finalisation of their project at Waterloo Park.
Member for Ryde and Minister for Minister for Finance, Services and Property, Victor Dominello attended Waterloo Park to officially open the new awning.
Macquarie Dragons FC are a growing club in the Gladesville Hornsby/North West Sydney Women’s region. The club has seen large growth over the last five years with 47% increase in registered participants during this time. In the same period women’s football has boomed at the club with an increase of 117% in five years.
The extension of the roofline was made possible by Local Sport Grant Program offered by the NSW Government via the Office of Sport.
The Local Sport Grant Program aims to increase regular and on-going participation opportunities in sport and active recreation.
Macquarie Dragons FC spokesperson said, “this is a great example of a grass roots football club improving a community amenity for the benefit of football and the broader community”.
The project benefits the football community on weekends during competition and weeknights during training. It will also benefit the broader community during the week and the off-season period. It provides a shaded covered area/shelter from sun and rain: for spectators during the football season and options for activities such as tai chi in the non- football period.
The Local Sport Grant program is a yearly grant administered by the Office of Sport and will once again open towards the middle of 2019.
For more information on available grants see the Football Facilities website which has regular updates on grants that are available for football clubs available here.
