Residents of the St George area will soon enjoy new and improved community recreational facilities thanks to a $20 million funding injection from the NSW Government.
Ador Park Precinct and McCarthy Reserve, Rockdale and Brighton Memorial Playing Fields, Brighton-Le-Sands will be revitalised as part of M6 Stage 1.
Mark Coure, Member for Oatley, said that the upgrades show what can be achieved when Government works hand in hand with local communities and stakeholders.
“The NSW Government is committed to working with local councils to create high quality sporting facilities and accessible and safe open spaces.”
“This $20 million project will ensure that sporting teams and residents can continue to enjoy their local parks without interruptions during construction of the M6 and beyond.”
The revitalised facilities will include:
Ador Park Precinct and McCarthy Reserve, Rockdale
- Upgraded full-sized synthetic field
- New mid-sized synthetic field
- New inclusive playground with new equipment and BBQ area
- New skate park
- New amenities building including changing rooms, canteen and public amenities
- New and upgraded lighting for improved security
- Tree planting and landscaping
- New pedestrian and cyclist path
- New pedestrian bridge over Muddy Creek
- Upgrades to West Botany Street Bridge to include a shared pedestrian and cycle pathway
- Relocated car park with increased capacity
- New vehicle access off West Botany Street
Brighton Memorial Playing Fields, Brighton-Le-Sands
- Upgraded full size synthetic field
- New mid-sized grass fields
- New play area
- New memorial garden
- New lawn areas
- New amenities building including changing rooms, canteen and public amenities
- Upgraded car park with increased capacity
- New lighting and upgraded for improved security
- New access arrangement for Sybil Lane to improve safety
Construction on the upgrades is expected to begin in mid-2020 and open to the public in late-2021.
St George Football Association CEO, Craig Kiely, was delighted with the announcement.
“We are delighted with the level of investment from the government as part of this project to ensure delivery of inclusive, accessible and safe community sport facilities.” Kiely stated.
