Football St George Association was met with great news that the new Penshurst Park Sporting Hub was officially opened last Saturday complete with a new youth centre, grandstand, gender-neutral and accessible change rooms amongst a range of other amazing upgrades that will benefit the ‘World Game’ in the area.
It’s been a long time coming for the popular precinct.
The Sydney South Planning Panel approved the Development Application for stages 2 and 3 of the implementation of the master plan for the facility on 13th of March 2018.
Stage 2 upgrades focused on the upgrades such as:
- New scoreboard
- New all abilities playground
- Synthetic sports field
- Outdoor exercise station
- Accessible public toilets
- Canteen
- 265 seat accessible grandstand
- 4 change rooms
- Sports medical rooms and referee rooms
- Storage facilities
- Youth centre with multipurpose sports courts, meeting rooms and a training kitchen
- Landscaping
- 57 space car park upgrade with accessible parking spaces
While the Stage 3 will focus on the extension of the existing Hurstville Leisure Centre Facility including:
- 2 multi-courts
- Change facilities
- Gymnastics space
- Cafe area
- Outdoor deck
- Landscaping
These works are consistent with the Masterplan and Plan of Management for the site, approved by the former Hurstville City Council in 2015, which was designed to provide the community with a regional centre for sporting excellence.
Funding sources for this project included a $1 million Federal Government grant, and VPA funds.
