On Saturday 8th July the NSW Government announced the official opening of ‘The Green at Parramatta North’ 8,000 square metre sportsground that that has undergone a remarkable transformation to serve the local community.
This revitalization project, undertaken as part of the broader redevelopment of Parramatta North, showcases a harmonious blend of history, culture, and sustainability.
Dating back to its establishment in 1879, The Green boasts a storied past that resonates with the Burramattagal people of the Dharug Nation and other Aboriginal communities who share enduring connections with this land. The rejuvenation of The Green pays’ homage to this rich heritage while providing a platform for future generations to come together and create lasting memories.
The transformation of The Green at Parramatta North has been made possible through a dynamic partnership between the NSW Government, the City of Parramatta, and the Office of Sport.
Together, state, and local government has breathed new life into this space, enhancing its accessibility, revitalizing the playing surface, introducing temporary changeroom facilities, and implementing sustainable LED lighting.
Football NSW recognizes the importance of accommodating the growing demand for football in the local area.
“With the City of Parramatta projected to grow by more than 80,000 residents in the next 10 years, new open space such as The Green is vital for the growth of football in the North Parramatta region,” said Football NSW’s Manager – Government Relations, Funding and Infrastructure, Daniel Ristic
“The need for accessible spaces and infrastructure is a key strategic pillar for Football NSW, and The Green at Parramatta North perfectly aligns with this vision”.
As we anticipate the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, the demand for football, particularly in the female space, is expected to increase further.
Ensuring that adequate sporting facilities are available is crucial for participants of all ages, genders, and abilities to have access to the sport. The Green provides a new and innovative venue opportunity that maximizes participation and caters to the evolving needs of the North Parramatta sporting community.
The Green sits in the Granville District Soccer Football Association footprint.
Granville Waratah SFC the local club in North Parramatta attended the official opening with the club enjoying the first kick on the new field. The site will become a key venue in the growth of Granville Waratah SFC over the next 10 years.
