Football NSW has applauded the decision by the City of Ryde City Council to reimburse sporting clubs due to the recent wet weather that has hit Sydney this winter season.
In a fantastic move for the sport of football in the area, City of Ryde Council led by Mayor Clr Jerome Laxale decided to reimburse all not-for profit local community sporting clubs for the training sessions and competition games that have been cancelled during the 2022 season following a council meeting in July.
The unanimous decision from Council comes as the City of Ryde continued its support in assisting clubs following its fee relief during the two-year COVID period.
Football NSW’s Manager – Government Relations, Funding and Infrastructure, Daniel Ristic congratulated the City of Ryde City Council’s decision to assist in the financial aid of all football clubs within the area.
“This is a fantastic result for football clubs and all sports in the City of Ryde.
“It’s been a frustrating year for football and all sports with the number of games lost due to wet weather after two years of COVID interruptions.
“The City of Ryde have some great football projects currently under construction and or planned which will only further strengthen the sport’s appeal in the area.”
With almost 6,000 registered football participants in the City of Ryde area, the news of three football facilities gaining a much-needed upgrade has certainly been well received.
Christie Park will have a new administration and amenity building, LH Waud, home of the West Ryde Rovers will have a new synthetic turf while Gannan Park will see two new football fields developed thanks to Council receiving $2.4 million from the Round 1 of the Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund.
